TMF Member #23: DEEL (The Netherlands)
DEEL is a community of local car sharing cooperatives. Currently, it has 10 member cooperatives and around 50 shared cars. As of December 2024, 3 more groups are preparing to join, adding about 15 cars.
DEEL started in 2019 in The Hague with 25 households; now, about 500 households participate. Cooperatives exist in The Hague, Amsterdam, Utrecht, and Waterland, and are soon starting in Nijmegen, Apeldoorn, Amersfoort, and Zwolle.
DEEL promotes distributed knowledge and local resilience by guiding citizens to start their own cooperatives. These communities aim to make cities, towns, and villages places where nature and city are not separate.
