UrStrom eG
UrStrom is the first citizen energy cooperative in Mainz, capital of the federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate/Germany. Founded in 2010, the cooperative aims to contribute to the energy transition in the region through building a clean, democratic, and decentralized energy supply. It is supported by 450 members.
Besides the pioneering work of constructing photovoltaic plants which produce 100% clean electricity, UrStrom was also first in the transport revolution in Mainz: The project “UrStromMobil “laid the foundation for a new way of electro-mobility, powered by 100 % own green energy. It is placed in the hands of citizens and is based on the principle of “sharing instead of owning”. Eight e-cars are available to share at five locations across Mainz. Almost 230 customers have signed onto the project.
UrStrom is co-founder of “The Mobility Factory “and a founding member of the German umbrella cooperative for e-Carsharing, Vianova eG.
